Southside High School has a very active and comprehensive Business Department. There are three business teachers, Mrs. Elaine Hall, Mrs. Janice Hatley, and Mr. Jimmy Owens. The goal of the Business Department is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for economic success in the twenty-first century.
Much emphasis is placed on computer skills, general business skills including accounting and business law, ethics and values for the workplace and society, and career education. We have three computer labs equipped with the latest in multimedia computers and high-speed Internet connection. We also have inkjet and networked printers, scanners, notebook computers and digital cameras.
Each student enrolled in a business-related class is encouraged to join Future Business Leaders of America. Our club is very active with school and community projects and business-related competitions. Each year we have students place at the district and state levels. We have had four students win at the state level and go on to compete at the national level.
