The ASTRA Club of Southside High School is a girls' service club sponsored by The Altrusa Club of Greater Gadsden. The acronym ASTRA stands for Ability, Service, Training, Responsibility, Achievement. ASTRA seeks to promote careers for women, patriotism, respect for all, and high moral character. There are 46 members who have been nominated by teachers and voted on by current ASTRA members. Mrs. Elaine Hall is the club sponsor.
Current projects include: Altrusa poinsettia and spring plant sale to benefit Eagle Rock Boys' Home, Christmas toy drive for needy children, school uniforms for students in Africa, and the annual SHS Talent show to help fund the Julie Diener Scholarship.
