Congratulations to the new Yearbook Staff. They are Leigh Carroll, Kristin Hays, Ashley Hill, Kyndall Hess, Jake Howell, Alyssa Huff, Cody Le, Lindsey Snell, Bethany Stephens, Holly Thrasher, Samantha Traylor, April Wright, Allison Biddle, Caroline Bowlin, Anna Brasher, Nichole Colegrove, Elizabeth Gargus, Katie Griffin, Jessica Mitchell, Anne Shelley, Makenzie Sherrell, and Kaylie Stephens.

Boys Basketball try-outs for next season will begin Monday, May 19th after school in the competition gym.  Varsity and Junior Varsity try-outs will be at 3:30 and 9th grade try-outs will be at 5:30. If you have any questions or conflicts, please see Coach Troup in the PE gym this week.

Seniors, please bring $30 for your cap and gown as soon as possible.

All FBLA members who wish to attend the end-of-the-year party on Tuesday, May13th (tomorrow), should see Mrs. Hatley for details.

Congratulations to the following SHS Band Students for their participation in Jacksonville State University Honor Band this past weekend:  Briany Szanny, Jenny Pilkanis, Samantha Traylor, Will Stroup, Nathan Williams, Drew Sanders, Billy Banks, Shelley Boyers, Jesse Collier, and Lauren McClendon.  These students represented SHS well.  Congratulations!

The Southside High School and Rainbow Middle School Band Programs will present their Spring Concert on Thursday, May 15, 2008, at 7:00 in the Southside High School Auditorium. The concert will feature students in grades 6-12, and include an awards ceremony and reception.  Admission is $5 and all proceeds will go to the Southside High School Band Instrument Account to help us further our mission.  We hope to see you there!

The NHS end of the year dinner will be tonight at 5:30 at Pasghetti's. Anyone who plans to attend should sign up in Mrs. Bain's room by the end of break today.

The SHS Band, The Pride of Southside, will hold its 2008 Rookie Camp next week, May 19-23 from 3:15-5:00 in the Bandroom.  All first or second year marchers, including new Danceline and Colorguard members are required to attend. Please contact Mr. Haskew with any questions.

Please bring all prom portraits or money to yearbook room now! A long list of names was read so if you have not paid, please do so.

There are 8 yearbooks left so first come, first serve.

If you want a CD that the yearbook did please bring $10 to Mrs. Townsel by next Tuesday.

The City of Southside's Annual Clean-Up Day will be held Saturday, May 17, 2008 from 7:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.  We are asking schools, churches, and businesses to participate. Volunteering for this event is a great way to make a difference in your community! Meet at City Hall.

Don't forget that Girls Basketball try-outs start today at the competition gym from 3:15 until 5:00. 

Anyone interested in trying out for the volleyball team needs to sign up with Coach Ayres. All those interested need to attend a volleyball meeting on Wednesday during break.

Tutoring for the Language and Reading parts of the Graduation Exam (given this summer) is offered every day after school in Mr. Clevenger's room (222).

Astra members who did not sign up for the end of the year party, please make reservations with Mrs. Carter by Tuesday, May 15th. The party will be at Red Lobster on May 20th at 3:30.  And if you are coming, don't forget to bring a pair of silver earrings that cost anywhere from $5 to $10 wrapped up like a present.

Champions gymnastics is starting an all-star cheerleading squad. Jordan Cothran, a former SHS cheerleader, is going to be the Coach, along with Mandy Tinsley.  If you are interested, please see Mrs. Blackwell.

During lunch this week, a school spirit shirt will be sold.  It will have Southside High School in the pocket area on the front and a panther design (shown on the announcements on t.v.) on the back. The cost is $15 and the money goes to support the tennis team.

If you are 18, see Mrs. Fry to register to vote in room 208. This is a very important election! Please be a part of the voting that will occur this summer.

Free Social Studies Tutoring for the Graduation Exam will be in Mrs. Fry's room, #208 after school.

The Graduation Exam will be given in July. Come to tutoring to review for the Exam!
