Karen Bowlin, Principal

Our new principal is Mrs. Karen Bowlin, a 1982 graduate of Southside High School. Mrs. Bowlin has served as assistant principal at Rainbow Middle School for 3 years, assistant principal at Southside High School for 4 years, and assistant principal at Hokes Bluff Middle School for 2 years. She also was a special education teacher at Rainbow Middle School for 11 years.
     While in high school, Mrs. Bowlin was on the first softball team at Southside High School, as well as being a member of the band and the girl's basketball team. She was awarded a softball scholarship to Gadsden State.
     Mrs Bowlin holds a Masters Degree in Special Education and a cerification in Education Adminstration from Jacksonville State University.
     She and her husband Jamie, a 1982 SHS graduate, have two children, Alex and Caroline. Mr. and Mrs. Bowlin teach a College and Career Sunday School at Southside Baptist Church. She enjoys cooking, reading, and walking for exercise.

Assistant Principals
Mr. Hal Murphy and Coach Scott Calhoun

   Mr. Hal Murphy is in his 2nd year as Assistant Principal of Southside High School.  He is a graduate of Troy State University, where he received both his Bachelors and Master's Degrees.  He received his Education Administration Certification from Jacksonville State University. He was chosen as 2004-2005 Southside High School Teacher of the Year. He was also the band director for the award-winning Pride band for 20 years.
       He and his wife Holley, an elementary special education teacher, are the proud parents of Anna Grace and Natalie Murphy.

   Coach Scott Calhoun graduated from Southside High School in 1986 and Jacksonville State University in 1990. He has his B.S degree in physical education and science and his Master's degree in administration.
         In 2001, he led our baseball team to the 5A State Champs. He has been at SHS for 8 years.
